AAFEB --- Anaerobic Attached microbial Film Expanded Bed

Anaerobic microorganism treatment is an indispensable treatment section in the current high concentration organic wastewater sewage water treatment process. It is better that aerobic microorganism treatment not only has low energy consumption, but also can produce biogas as a secondary use of energy. The higher the anaerobic reaction volume load is, the higher the oxygen reaction is, and the lower the investment is for treating the same amount of COD anaerobic reaction.

At present, the commonly used anaerobic treatment processes include:

UASB --- Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Bed/Blanket

EGSB --- Expanded Granular Sludge Blanket Reactor

CSTR --- Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor

IC --- Internal Circulation Anaerobic Reactor

ABR --- Anaerobic Baffled Reactor

UBF --- Upflow Sludge Bed Filter

AF --- Anaerobic Biofilter

AFBR --- Anaerobic Fluidized Bed Reactor

USSB --- Upflow Staged Sludge Bed

AAFEB --- Anaerobic Attached microbial Film Expanded Bed

USR --- Upflow solid anaerobic reactor

PPR --- Plug Flow Reactor

Two-phase Anaerobic Reactor

AAFEB --- Anaerobic Attached microbial Film Expanded Bed

Anaerobic Attached Microbial Film Expanded Bed (AAFEB) reactor is one of the modern efficient anaerobic reactors, which provides a large number of attachment surfaces for dispersed sludge by adding fine carriers to the reactor to form high concentration and high activity biofilm granular sludge, effectively retaining microorganisms in the reactor, thus realizing the efficient operation of the reactor

Structural Characteristics of AAFEB Reactor

1. Inlet water distribution system

The influent water distribution system mainly distributes the wastewater to the whole reactor as evenly as possible, and has certain hydraulic mixing function. It is one of the keys to the efficient operation of the reactor.

2. Reaction zone

It includes sludge bed area and sludge suspension layer area, where organic matter is mainly decomposed by anaerobic bacteria and is the main part of the reactor.

3. Three-phase separator

It is composed of sedimentation zone, reflux joint and gas seal. Its function is to separate biogas, sludge and liquid. After sedimentation in the sedimentation zone, sludge flows back to the reaction zone from the reflux joint, and biogas enters the gas chamber after separation. The separation effect of the three-phase separator will directly affect the treatment effect of the reactor. The liquid rising velocity in the reactor is much larger, so special improvement must be made to the three-phase separator.

The following methods can be used for improvement:

  • Add a rotatable blade to generate a downward flow at the bottom of the three-phase separator, which is conducive to the return of dry sludge
  • Use a sieve drum or fine screen to intercept fine granular sludge
  • Set an agitator in the reactor to separate bubbles from granular sludge
  • A baffle is set at the outlet weir to intercept granular sludge.

4. Effluent circulating system and drainage system

The effluent circulation part is the difference between the reactor and the up-flow anaerobic reactor. Its main purpose is to increase the liquid rising velocity in the reactor, make the granular sludge bed fully expand, make full contact between sewage and microorganisms, strengthen the mass transfer effect, and also avoid the generation of dead corners and short flow in the reactor. The function of the drainage system is to uniformly collect the treated water on the surface of the sedimentation zone and discharge it from the reactor.

5. Air chamber

Also known as gas gathering hood, its function is to collect biogas.

6. Scum removal system

Its function is to remove the floating debris on the surface of the liquid level in the sedimentation zone and the air chamber. If there is not much scum, it can be omitted.

7. Sludge discharge system

Its function is to uniformly remove the residual sludge in the reaction zone.
